Opal likes to sing, and it makes her happy. Earl knows this, but it doesn’t make him happy. So, they both have to be unhappy, so Earl isn’t bothered. He could decide to go get the mail or politely go anywhere. Or, depending on how long she plans to sing, just deal with it. After 50 years or so, he should be getting used to it.
I had a roommate who really could sing. It was wonderful to hear her in the morning. I’m sure Opal must have once had a beautiful voice. You know how it is when you get older. (Your husband’s hearing changes.)
