I see box turtles sorta trot, when I see one in the middle of the road I stop and try to get them across the road so they won’t get run over. They speed up and their shells hit the road, sounds ugly but you can’t catch them BUT at least they get across the raod
That gait doesn’t look like a trot to me. My guess it is a pace, same gait this turtle uses both fast & slow movement. But with my lack of expertise and only still images to go by, I could be wrong about this important matter. Fact check please.
When an animal is trotting, the legs move in a diagonal direction; that is, left foreleg and right hindleg move together, as do the right foreleg and left hind leg. This turtle is doing the pace, i.e., left legs move together and right legs move together.
That looks not so much like a trot as a pacing gait. In a trot, a horse’s RF and LR legs would go forward as the LF and RR legs moved back. In a pace, both rights move forward as both lefts move back. That is what I see here.

It’s overrated.

Did it match your expectations? Personally I find trotting jiggles the flesh too much.. but, turtles might be different.
