I weigh myself daily, but that’s NOT what the experts say is best. My oldest sister had the daily weight habit and if she was even a few ounces over what she weight the day she married, she just fasted until lunch. Several ounces: fast until supper. I’m not doing that, but I do keep track of the pattern over the last several days and it does inform my snacking…
After a few decades, life becomes a matter of checking details and, for those who wish to continue the ride, accommodating the changes. I check weight and blood sugar first thing. Just to record it. Rarely over safe level. Check glucose 2 hours after dinner. Again just to check, but dessert choice turns on that one. Higher than I like, something sugar free. In safe zone, light dessert. Weight at about 10lbs over high school 70 years ago, and about 10lbs lighter than in my 50’s.
That is when I began to take the steps to get here. Our sons are in their 50’s. My message to them: in your 60’s you will get onto the medical treadmill that will carry you for the rest of your life. Best to use this decade to get there on your own terms. So far both are working at it.
If you were a couch potato most of your life and decided on walking everyday for at least 15 minutes you will probably lose weight quite easily. Man literally walked out of Africa to Eurasia, Asia, Europe and the Americas, walking is in our genes!
I weigh myself once a week. The rest of the time, I pay attention to how my clothes are fitting. If you are exercising and building some muscle, you may weigh more on the scale…but your clothes will probably be looser.
I measure my fitness by how my clothes fit. For awhile, after surgery, my weight had gone down too far, ‘skinny’ clothes were hanging off me. It was scary. Now I’m at my goal size and am very aware and if my clothes are a bit snug I eat a piece of fruit instead of a meal. It helps.

Then why doesn’t he look slimmer? He still looks the same.

Weighing can be misleading, because muscle is denser than fat.

If ostriches buried their heads for real to avoid danger, the species would be extinct in weeks. Predators would just stroll up and dig in.

Ostriches don’t bury their heads. Seems like he should know that.
