Over on For Better or For Worse right now, Farley the dog is pretty glad he’s not fixed! But his owners and the owners of the girl dog (won’t use the b word) next door will definitely NOT be happy!
Earl might be projecting a bit here. Dogs are adaptable. They accept things. It doesn’t mean they like everything. I am pretty sure my dog would prefer to run loose – and get killed or stolen – but I keep her on a leash for her safety. I bet she would prefer to eat what I eat every day, but I make sure she gets meals that are very good for her and let her sample most of what I eat. Roscoe looks like he could use a few more daily walks. I bet he loves his walks and gets very few. He needs long walks. They can’t tell us what they would really prefer.
I know it’s supposed to be better for them in the long run…but I’ve never had any of my dogs fixed. I just cant do it, imagining what it would be like for ME! Now cats are a different matter. Every cat I’ve had I’ve gotten fixed, though all the cats I’ve ever had were female. And never let them go outside..EVER. AND I have NEVER declawed a cat. That’s just torture on them and every cat I’ve ever seen that was declawed had mental problems of some sort. With all that being said, I lost my last cat a year ago, she was 20. When the wife and I got married 12 years ago we had 4 dogs between us, I buried the last one 3 years ago. We have both decided that that’s it for pets. She just doesn’t want the heartache and expense. I’ve got her talked into a fish tank, but we also have full custody of our 2 grandkids….oldest just turned 9….and need to wait until they get older for the fish’s sake.
I know that Brian is merely retreading the tired, old gag about pets being perturbed by having been spayed or neutered, but it’s nonetheless a despicable message when millions of unwanted dogs and cats are put to death each year. Appropriate punishment? Require Brian to volunteer to help with a day’s euthanasia responsibilities at a local shelter.

I wish I didn’t have to fix my kitten so soon, but she doesn’t seem to be bothered by it one bit.
In fact, she seems quite happy and content – much happier than she was at only six months and desperate all the time.
Yeah, I know it’s for a gag. But I don’t think animals will mind to much if you fix them.

In honor of today’s strip and the late Bob Barker, “Be sure to get your pets spayed or neutered!”

I know people who would have benefited from being fixed. Mankind would prob be happier as well.
kelloggs2066 about 1 year ago
I’d say that’s pretty good advice.

“Fixed” is such a strange term. If he wasn’t broken why was he fixed?
MRC112 about 1 year ago
When dogs get fixed, they must look up at their owners and think “I thought I was supposed to be your best friend! What the hell”

On the other hand you aren’t distracted as badly as you would have been. Many were the times I could not pay attention to my teacher in school.

This is a case of “Fixed means you’re broken”. (Just like some items I’ve tried to fix.)
