The condo is a vacation for Arlo, the house is a place where Arlo has exclusive access to Janis.

What does Arlo get out of planting the idea to move, everyone else agrees, they’re offered a free rental to start with, Janis especially wants to move, then he changes his mind and doesn’t want to talk about it?

The harder Mary Lou presses the more she’ll push Janis away. I think they should stay stay where they are. Janis hates storms and wouldn’t like going through the kinds on the gulf.

Leave Janis alone! There’s no rush for them to go thru all the hassles of sorting thru, getting rid of, down sizing, etc. And, especially, the stupid-stupid-stupid “getting your house ready to go on the market”! Let’s just spend $5 to $10 thousand revamping our house to the latest aesthetics, to get $1 to $5 thousand in return! Of course, then the new owners will change everything anyhow, so, did it matter that you did all that work, just so they “didn’t have to”???

    Slightly off topic.

On this date in 2005, Katrina hit. If my memory is correct, this is the storm that forced Jimmy to evacuate. I recall that he posted a note on his blog that he had to leave and that he hoped that he would be back online in a few days.

    Back on topic.

As I mentioned before, our son and his family really want us to move to Denver. Even if we could afford it, we would be reluctant. In a few more years, we will be looking at assisted living and the other problems of aging. We don’t want to saddle them with that.

Uprooting from everything and everyone you know is a daunting thing. Sometimes it works out, others it doesn’t. If it doesn’t, it can be difficult to undo.

Is also funny how reader’s comments when Arlo and Janis are home are that they’re boring and wondering where Gene and Mary Lou are.

Then when Arlo brings up the topic of moving and changes his mind, readers say moving is hard.

A lot of moving of opinions for something that in this case mostly requires different pixels on the page.

As a graphic designer, I’d move them to open up more creative avenues in storylines in addition to the regular slice of life marriage plot points. But can also see the value in gaining as much content as possible in drawing out any change in storyline and teasing the audience.

We retired to Florida and lived a 10-minute walk from the Atlantic in Daytona Beach. Despite the positives, we didn’t find it to our long-term taste and are now back in Massachusetts. We have beaches here, too – although it’s a bit more of a trip to get to them, as we’re 20 miles inland.

But, I’m happy we gave it a try.

they both want to move to be close to family, yet rather than move they dither and continue to do nothing.

10 days after our youngest graduated HS in 2003, we put the house up for sale because neither one of us wanted to spend another winter in northern MI. I was retired in 98, wife had sold her tavern in 2001, so as soon as the house sold we were on our way, no firm destination, just headed south. Checked out GA, FL, AL, MS, AZ, and NV then checked out numerous cities in Texas from Houston to Corpus Christi to El Paso before finally settling on San Antonio. From what we saw in LA we decided neither of us was interested in settling there

Janis needs to consider all the things she’d be giving up at their home, like her annual gardening frenzy.

I’m getting flashbacks to when I called to talk to my mom, and she said she was on her way to a birthday dinner for my niece. I had just spent some time with my niece, so I warned my mom that she was acting kind of bratty and that she’s turning into her father. My mom said the connection was bad and she’d talk to me the next day. The next day she informed me that her phone connects to her new car’s audio system so she can talk hands free. Then she said my sister, my niece, and her father were all in the car when I called and heard everything. Oops.
