I remember hearing a comedian talking about the generation that listened to tap dancers on the radio. I thought it was funny. When I asked my mother if she listened to tap dancers on the radio it was a “yeah…what about it” response.
The same goes for ventriloquists I guess.
That’s why they singularize it as TOE-tapping
