I just read that in 1938 Italy’s Convegno Nazionale di Letteratura Giovanile (National Conference of Juvenile Literature) banned all materials featuring Mickey Mouse, the Disney icon. The organization thought he encouraged children to be individuals, a concept that clashed with the fascist politics of dictator Benito Mussolini.
Messing with Mickey didn’t end well for Ol’ Benito . . . now did it?
’Last we heard of him he was just hanging around . . .
Just doing the job of president. Public support for the affected persons. Ensuring FEMA allocates funds. Visiting afterwards when it won’t strain resources. But President Biden misplaced his sharpie and his arm was tired, he couldn’t toss rolls of paper towels out.
Republicans screamed when Biden held off on visiting Maui, which he did to avoid disrupting recovery efforts. Now they’re screaming about his visit to Floriduh, claiming it will disrupt recovery efforts. Republicans being hypocrites, what a shocker.
He behaves like a churlish little sh*t. I do hope his constituents pay attention to his selfish decision to not accept federal money.
The Inflation Reduction Act makes Florida eligible for some $350 million in energy efficiency incentives. But Gov. Ron DeSantis has rejected the funding and other measures, creating the most prominent blockade by any Republican governor against Biden’s economic agenda. – Politico
Cutting his constituents’ noses off to spite his face.
I see “Last Mango” stuck up in a tree which made me think of Jimmy Buffet, (Last Mango in Paris, 1985 album also with a single that was a shout out to Captain Tony Tarracino, former bar owner and Mayor of Key West) RIP. BTW, Jimmy was staunch supporter of progressive causes. He will be missed.
By the time a child enters third grade, the child has been taught that calling others names and trying to insult them is bad manners and disrespectful. It appears that several posters missed out on that education; perhaps a result of home-schooling, considering the number of alleged adults who exhibit this behavior and who, like it or not, are role models for their children.
Yes, you are more than welcome to dis me for saying the above and continuing to refer to TFG as “the Dotard”, but I will remind you that none other than Kim Jung-Un called him that before I did, and we all know that those two were/are in love, and exchanged love letters for years.
“Love” may have a different definition for the Dotard. Let’s remember that he wanted to treat the Dreamers “with love”; his administration provided the opposite. Come to think of it, the word “truth” has a definition unique to him and his sycophants. Might there be others?
Puddin fingers will try to divert Federal disaster $$$ into his sorry a$$ campaign. That will help keep some of that “woke” money away from his voters.
When Sandy pummeled New Jersey then Governor Cristie, who was not an Obama fan and running against him to thank him for the visit in person and escort him around the damage. When fire burnt down Paradise, CA, Governor Newsome thanked Pres. Trump publically, although he was also a bitter opponent of Trump’s policies.
Back on topic, why do presidents visit disaster areas? It’s just PR and a complete waste of money, money which could be put to better use. Maybe people are encouraged by these visits (See, our president cares) but I think most are too busy recovering to be concerned about any photo ops. Better he should go before the disaster and helped filling sandbags or whatever needs doing. Don’t think he needs to see the damage for himself. He has people for that, experts even, and they can do a far better job.
Grifters, wannabees and Putin-style autocrats: Here’s why the GOP is no longer a legitimate political party
President Dwight D. Eisenhower wrote about them in a letter to his rightwing brother Edgar in 1954, the middle of his presidency.
“Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. "
What Eisenhower never anticipated, however, was that 5 corrupt Republicans on the Supreme Court would rule that billionaires buying off politicians was mere “free speech” rather than political corruption and bribery.
Authoritarian followers. This group has blossomed since the Trump campaign of 2016. These are people openly skeptical of democracy, instead wanting a strong father figure to lead them and tell them how to think, act, and vote. They make up the majority of the January 6th traitors (although there’s a lot of overlap with the racists), and are ready to follow the next authoritarian leader who replaces Trump.
Because the GOP has no unifying philosophy other than hate, fear, and kowtowing to billionaires and their giant corporations, the politicians who make up its governing class are similarly fractured.
Neoliberalism was their uniting philosophy in 1980 and Reagan cemented that system into place with his presidency: it still controls most of the American political and economic system and dictates most modern Supreme Court decisions as well.
