A 6-panel Sunday that could be a no-panel Sunday. It’d be just as funny, because it isn’t funny.

Crank is using a rake instead of a blower or his flamethrower.

I do love the way people rake up leaves, stuff them into plastic bags, and drive them to the “composting center,” which mulches them, lets them decay over the winter, and then sells them back to the homeowners as fertilizer in the spring. I wish such pointless activity were confined to fictional characters in a comic strip, but I know far too many people who do this. To me, it makes more sense to just run the muching mower over the leaves, grinding them into confetti (so that the grass underneath doesn’t starve for air and light) and let nature take its course.

BTW, I did make a time-lapse movie some years back, in which we see me running the mower back and forth over a leaf-covered lawn to mulch the leaves. Then I get in the car and drive away, and over the next few hours the tree drops enough leaves to completely re-cover the lawn. The movie ends with me running the mower over the newly-fallen leaves. I titled it “Modern Suburban Sisyphus.” Seemed appropriate.

And that is what happens when you drive you bus right past the neighbor kid without stopping to pick him up. Well played kid, well played.

The only thing good about this strip is how mad Ed will be, and we don’t get to see it.

At least this strip saved us from yet another feeble attempt at wordplay.

If you’re old enough to remember, leaves were raked into piles. You could either jump into the piles or set them on fire.

Yeah, why is that kid alone with Ed? Ed is extremely irresponsible. Last year, he let the kid watch the movie “Halloween.” I would not trust him with anybody’s kid!
