Fall seems to be coming later around here. My pool company schedules my closing around the end of the third week of October each year. 20 years ago I’d spend several days scooping leaves before they came (a cleaner closing makes for an easier opening). I’d clean out the leaves and the next day there was a ton more leaves to clean out. The past few years I’ve only had to spend a couple of hours scooping leaves on the day they come.

On the plus side, it is easier to blow the leaves off the pool’s loop loc safety cover than it is to scoop them from the bottom of the pool.

Katy, if you find out who’ll do the trade for you I’d like to see if She could get our rain days of the summer more equally distributed. Are any sort of sacrifices required in the propitiation? (If someday it may happen that a victim must be found, I’ve got a little list.)

I’ve got the season’s first fire already laid in the woodstove. I’ll probably light it with a ferrocerium rod and steel striker, just to keep in practice. Fill the pot on top with water and that’ll become our first “Cowboy Coffee” of the season, too. I’m looking forward to it!

Personally I hate summer. I suffer from high humidity with corresponding heat increases in summer, so end up really uncomfortable all the time. It doesn’t help I’m about 5 degrees above everyone else. When they all say it’s lovely, I’m way too hot. I much prefer colder days as there are so many things you can do to heat yourself up, but on hot days, you are stuffed – other than drape yourself over the air con

That girl needs a life sentence to Hawaii. She can visit snow on the big island for a couple of hours if she needs it and then the rest of the time is green and glorious.

I’m glad Summer is over and I hate hot weather. It’s too dry and too many wildfires. Bring on the cooler temperatures and rain. I can pay someone to rake the leaves

Fires are banned where I live and everyone moves the leaves into the street, so it clogs the gutter and it floods everywhere.

Also, it’s cold and now I need to buy new shoes.

and suddenly it’s autumn. nearly 10 degrees cooler this morning than yesterday a.m. after our hot, exceedingly dry summer we’re expecting the leaves to just unceremoniously fall off the trees. so, no “majestic” foliage… ☺

Come live in AZ for a while, you’ll be thrilled when Autumn arrives. Still 90 degrees today, though. I saw a cartoon lately, said we need a new season, called “Hotumn”
