If you’re prim and proper as Ms. Caxton appeared to be; the materials on your desk are always in order that help with regular access might just notice when something is out of place.

It shouldn’t be that difficult to determine that the diary should have been where dashed outline indicates….

Maybe the diary had incriminating evidence in it?!

I think the colorist got the shades of green reversed on the blotter. Shouldn’t it be darker where the diary covered it, while the rest would be faded by the exposure to light?

Diary or appointment book that would have a record of who was coming? And I still think the housekeeper should know there is a safe in the wall (although, without x-ray eyes, she couldn’t tell if anything were missing).

Figured it out. The killer is lovable fuzzy alien ALF who, having stolen a ham sandwich with onions and and whipped cream (garnished with only the finest vegan lark’s vomit), hid out in the wall safe to enjoy it in peace. Surprised, he instinctively lashed out with the pickle spear.

The housekeeper must not know about the safe. She would have said something about it by now. Whoever did the deed put back the picture which covered it.

With the help of prissy missy Housekeeper-Lady, Tracy has the clue of the missing diary with which to work; he should be able to deduce, as quickly as we of the Comments, that the name of the perp was in it. That, however, is not going to help much at this moment.

Does Housekeeper-Lady know of the existence of the wall safe? Will she tell Tracy about it? How will our Chief of Detectives get this case moving?
