If you’re prim and proper as Ms. Caxton appeared to be; the materials on your desk are always in order that help with regular access might just notice when something is out of place.
I think the colorist got the shades of green reversed on the blotter. Shouldn’t it be darker where the diary covered it, while the rest would be faded by the exposure to light?
Diary or appointment book that would have a record of who was coming? And I still think the housekeeper should know there is a safe in the wall (although, without x-ray eyes, she couldn’t tell if anything were missing).
Figured it out. The killer is lovable fuzzy alien ALF who, having stolen a ham sandwich with onions and and whipped cream (garnished with only the finest vegan lark’s vomit), hid out in the wall safe to enjoy it in peace. Surprised, he instinctively lashed out with the pickle spear.
Look under the sofa cushion, Tracy. But be wary. He still has a crust left and he’s on the run and very jumpy. Better send SAM in
1-DT: Looks like you don’t clean very well – look over there. MAID MARION: WHY THE…HOW’D YE LIKE A KICK IN THE BALLS, YE FECKIN…
2-…Oh. I see what yer sayin’….3-…I was under strict orders to never tech the desk blotter, don’t ye know. Aiii, but the old gal is dead now so I can tech it all I want! Tech, tech, tech, tech. HAA HAAA! Take that ye old hag!
DT:Hmmm. So the desk blotter was special somehow… SAM! Slip that blotter into your evidence pocket!
Okay, this is the former 198.23.5.11—-my computer re-booted ITSELF and then it assigned me THIS new nom de plume even though that’s not what I t yped in.
Computers should be tossed from high windows until they’re impaled on flagpoles, same as The Brow.
Hopefully, the reboot has fixed it so people can reply to me—I’ve been in limbo for three weeks.
We open with a nice, bloody murder—-which is Gouldian enough for me.
Minit Mysteries are fictional. I think this is a continuity case.
In personal news, we have no car so I rarely go near my garage. Until I noticed a gray mass outside that turned out to be a wasp nest the size of a watermelon.
The housekeeper must not know about the safe. She would have said something about it by now. Whoever did the deed put back the picture which covered it.
With the help of prissy missy Housekeeper-Lady, Tracy has the clue of the missing diary with which to work; he should be able to deduce, as quickly as we of the Comments, that the name of the perp was in it. That, however, is not going to help much at this moment.
Does Housekeeper-Lady know of the existence of the wall safe? Will she tell Tracy about it? How will our Chief of Detectives get this case moving?

Good morning™, all!
I wonder why the diary would be missing. I don’t have a hypothesis on that, at least not yet.
