Wayy back in the mid-1990s, I was awakened one morning by what I thought was a military jet flying low over my apartment. I thought, “huh; that’s odd,” and dropped back to sleep.

Then I woke up later and went outside .. to what looked like a war zone. Overturned cars, downed trees, and the roof of the building across the street ripped open.

What I’d thought was a military jet had actually been a tornado .. and it missed my apartment by mere feet. o_O

I’d worry more about how NONE of the adults in charge seemed to notice a tornado bearing down on the gym until it was too late to do anything about it.

Winners are the kids who get a new lunch room from the money raised.

Oh no, a tie game! I guess the parents will have to stop competing with each other, make up, and all become even bester friends

Not only did no one else notice, but the tornado sirens didn’t go off. Good thing it’s just a comic!

Problem is that warning sirens need regular maintenance, and they need to be spaced appropriately so they can be heard in all areas. This becomes a cost issue and the argument is that everyone has a cell phone to receive warnings (even most of the Amish in this area have cellphones). The fly in the ointment is that not everyone carries a cell phone with them at all times.

At least they’re in a sturdy building. And the emergency lights should kick in Saturday. :-)
