You don’t have to be carved to be attractive. Uncarved pumpins show off their true beauty, while plain pumpkins have to be carved to get attention.

Don’t you worry little one, you’re fated to enjoy a spicier future. You’ll take part in a grand celebratory dinner, surrounded by family and friends.

Pumpkins were a major staple of the colonial American diet. Pies, soups, breads, baked, even brewed in beer. There were dozens of ways to prepare it. Most did involve gutting though.

Having cooked many a pumpkin, I can tell you, you want to get the seeds & strings out!!! And, they are very versatile, hence the Colonial propensity for incorporating them into everything they could. And, livestock can eat them too.

What matters the wishes of mortals when the gods or the fates decide their time has come?

Sounds disturbingly(religiously)familiar.

It’s a downside either way. Come winter you will rot away and birds and other critters will eat you and distribute your seeds.

The only fit fate for a heretical pumpkin is to be baked into a purified pumpkin pie!

(No one expects the Pumpkin Inquisition!)

As Susan Francisco says in an episode of Alien Nation, the practice is to “mutilate the vegetable.”

October? The pumpkins have been for sale since early September, and there are already very few left. I’m wondering what they’ll look like on actual Halloween night.

Note that the variety of Pumpkins sold for Jack-O-Lanterns are actually used for that because they make Terrible Pies.
