I used to love Halloween, and dressing up and giving out candy. For the past 20 years, though, the shades stay drawn, the outside lights stay off, and there’s no decorations. That year, I was alone in the house with my Fox Terrier Mykei. It was fun until the teenagers started showing up — no costumes, of course — and one big kid seemed a little too interested in seeing into the house. I was giving out the treats from the front sunroom and had a child gate up separating it from the living room so that the dog wouldn’t get out. That one boy just didn’t want to leave, and was making me nervous. Luckily, a small group of somewhat younger ones then showed up, and I was able to get him out with them. I immediately turned the lights off and locked the doors. That was the last time for me!
Don’t do Halloween here. I let all 4 dogs outside (all fenced), so I know if someone’s coming down the long drive. Front gate has an electric fence to keep pups in yards. Not buying candy for any beggoweeners! Thank goodness there’s only one way to get into the backyard.
I love Halloween. We normally have between 350 – 400 trick or treaters and they are great! The kids and even many of the parents have wonderful costumes!
Not a problem here. We haven’t had any costumers come by in the last 3 years. There are other venues going on and since it falls on a school night they seem to be scattered across the weekend.
We lived 10 years in an apartment in an apartment complex. We one pair of girls come trick or treating in all that time.
We have lived in our house over 30 years. We have not had one trick or treater in all that time. I work from home most days so it is not that no one was home when they came. We do live on a 4 lane main road with the people across the street living in a different community so children from there would not come across the street. But we have a family with 2 daughters to our north and with one daughter to the south. We are at least in a “hello – how is it going relationship” and the one to the north once felt comfortable enough to ask me to write a personal reference for her for a new job she was interviewing for.
We stopped buying candy to give out decades ago since no one came – we are both Diabetics so we can’t eat it ourselves.

Luddy may be miffed but it’s better than him possibly slipping out the door with all those strange creatures around.

We never get trick or treaters. There’s not enough ROI walking a 1,000 foot driveway for a small candy bar.

For the last 23 years I’ve lived in the woods. Not even google can find my house…literally.

Our dogs didn’t like the doorbell ringing and not being able to greet the trick or treaters themselves.

Nope. Far enough away to not have any Trick or Treaters. Cats, dogs and other critters have a nice restful night.

Years ago trick or treating was just plain fun. Then years later I enjoyed taking my children out door to door. Things have changed a lot.

Our cats always let us know when someone is at the front door. They run to the basement.
