Consider yourself lucky, Brutus. For 43 years, to go to work, I woke up at 3:30 in the morning.

Doesn’t really matter what time your morning is. It’s always too early.

Would morning be any better if it came in the evening?

My wife feels similarly to our hapless hero. She’d just as soon “morning” start about 10 am.

For a time, I’d arrive before everyone else for work at 7:30. That’d give me time to take care of printing reports from home office, and receiving stock before the work day began at 10. That’s AM time, BTW.

Born and raised on a farm. Tobacco, cotton, corn, soybeans. Cropped and picked by hand. Up at 3 am to work till dark and often using light till midnight for really barely enough to stay afloat. Only real working job ever had. Left farm to retire for Air Force to retire and then from NC State job retired. Easy Peasy. Serving the Lord as Minister always full time but not a job to me even though I am retired from active Ministry, I stay busy busy with it. Still hop up early before day break.

It’s odd how morning people and not-morning people often marry each other. I am not a morning person, but it doesn’t matter when I actually get up. I am just groggy for a while, no matter the time. Brutus might be like that too.

I’ve been retired for several years now. I still get up around 6am. I’m not sure if it’s habit or because I like the early morning. Probably both.

A long time ago, I became convinced that the world of work mostly belonged to morning people and extroverts. I am neither of those, so it has been a rough ride.

I agree. One extra hour in bed every day would be so very nice. However, while that might occur in Heaven, doesn’t happen here on Earth.Have an extra cup of coffee and get going. Boss doesn’t take kindly to stragglers…..

Total empathy for Brutus. I learned you’re either a morning person or you’re not and you can’t change (or at least I couldn’t). And Monday mornings are the worst (as we saw in last Monday’s strip). The best thing about retirement is not having to get up too early.

Buck up Brutus you have a lot to look forward to, eight hours working for a nasty boss, lunch at a diner with a snarky waitress, a crowded bus ride home and oh yes, Mother Gargle is going to be there for dinner.

Easy for Gladys to say. She is still in her bathrobe itching at the chance to jump back in bed once Brutus leaves…
