Oh come on, if a BIG Black Spider ever said “hello” to me, I’d burn the house down.

No it wasn’t appropriate. Spud waited far too long to escalate.

A Spudly morn it is to be!

This happened in a class I was in in the sixties. Only it was a grad physics class. A large spider came down, a student snagged the web on a pencil, and we were handing it around and looking at the poor spider who probably was wondering what to do. The prof saw us, came over, he looked for a while, too, and then took the pencil and put the spider out in the hall. It isn’t just third graders who get distracted.

Spiders in my house get put outside or in the garage depending on the spider. I figure their little lives mean as much to them as mine does to me. Relativity.

Time for a new lesson – spiders are our friends!

Other people’s phobias are so amusing!

Just this morning I fished a spider out my bathtub so that he wouldn’t get hurt when I turned on the shower. Come on, Spud, befriend him.

C’mon, Spud, what are you waiting for. There’s still at least 3 more panes to aim for.

Let’s be realistic Spud, if everything in the world was out to get you, you’d have been got by now.

He should have thrown the desk- larger area to hit the spider.

Why? It was a polite spider! She said “hello”.

It was either that or run screaming from the classroom and refuse to return until the room had been properly “de-spidered,” which would’ve been no less disruptive. So at least Spud decided to be more proactive about it instead, Tech. ;)

Appropriate, shmappropriate. Whether Spud’s reaction arose from arachnophobia or from the (possibly imagined) spider’s speaking, you can’t expect rational judgment to have anything to do with it.

Naturally, in his adrenaline rush, Spud misses the spider.

Out in the boonies if you’re sleeping on a ground mat or poncho, Mr. Spider and his friends like to come up on chilly nights to snuggle up and stay warm next to you. One of the reasons we slept on tracks or on the deuce and a half.

I’ve had a horror of spiders since childhood, but, since they eat bugs, we’ve established a truce…(the enemy of my enemy is my…well…ally.) But I will move them outside whenever possible. Except for the sink spiders! They’re WAY too fast and they freak me out! They get exterminated with extreme prejudice!

It talked to him. Yes.

And in that moment Amelia could respect Spud’s chaos creating ability.

That is completely the right response!

There was a woolly bear caterpillar in the church foyer today. I put it outside after the service to do its hibernating thing.

I work in the mailroom of a cheese cave. There are many busy spiders at work catching bugs and dust. Most are so frail that it’s a challenge not to harm them when sweeping the ceilings & walls. But we have to make them keep replacing their webs, in the interest of tidiness.

Now, if the spider were Spider-Man™, I’d side with Spud.

If Amelia had been in Spud’s place (and if she were scared of spiders, which I doubt), she would have picked Spud up and thrown him through the window. :D
