Just a touch of indifference to heighten anticipation. Usually works.

Caulfield will be so hip he’ll have difficulty seeing over his pelvis.

I tried Arthur Dent as a last minute costume one year. Just got a lot of people wondering why I was wandering about in a bathrobe. (The crowd at that party tended toward overpaying for rubber masks. Nice work on a chestburster that would pop out from under a shirt when a string is pulled, though)

DOUGLASS ADAMS!! Or perhaps Arthur Dent, Slartibartfast, or Zaphod Beeblebrox? No! My money’s on Marvin.

Apparently the entire premise of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was based on Douglas Adams’s problems while travelling and vacationing. “Don’t forget your towel”? He forgot his.

It’s nice to know that The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is now considered literature. It wasn’t when I read it in the 1980s.

If lyrics are literature, and they should be, then he would embrace “The Great Procrastinator”, a song by Stornoway

Let’s see, this would be the, ummm, 37th great-literature costume this kid’s had in the 3rd grade?

When my daughter was a senior, she and I went to Scotland to look at St Andrews (and to apply, since you do it by talking to a professor in your major. Yes she got in and has a Masters and an M. Litt from there. But, while we were there we stopped at a Safeway and found, in the parking lot, a Ford Prefect. A forest green one. I have the photo somewhere.

Caulfield will be going as the White Rabbit.

Meanwhile, the White Rabbit will be going as Caulfield (turning in his homework late).
