reminds me of the struggle between generations; those that only know central AC controlled by a thermostat, and those coming from old days of AC units. Those from old times typically say “raise the temperature” meaning “make it colder” because those old units had a knob with a diagram of blue line that increases in thickness, ought to mean “increase in coldness” – Anyway, talking to new generations, “raise the temperature” is understood in terms of the actual temperature, which means “make it hotter”.
Or you could leave it right where it is and set a small baggie of ice on top. The ice convinces the thermostat that it’s way too cold in the house, so it runs the furnace.
The trick is to put your cold hands on your mom’s exposed neck. It might help her rethink the whole temperature thing, at the very least, it’s a payback for all the bloody tofu.
our provincial utility had a efficiency promotion and amongst other things I got a nice wifi thermostat with installation. Free. Saves money by lowering temp overnight
And just how long did it take for Jason to teach Paige that little tidbit of math? Perhaps she is proof the interest found within desire is a great motivator.
When did they replace the thermostat from the one you had to turn to change the temperature? I may have to dig out my books to find a strip it was featured in.
I live in an apartment in San Francisco with base wall heaters. They’re over 50 years old and really don’t do a good job so, I’m cold all the time. Can’t wait for warmer weather. Brrrr.

You’re going to lose, Paige and Jason. Andy knows that the negative of a negative is a positive.

Our house only had a floor furnace. My little brother and I would straddle it when we got up in the morning.

I wouldn’t mind that too much, but some kids somewhere keep messing with the gravitystat, usually just as I’m getting near the end of my workday.

Decrease it from the normal 50ºF that Andy sets at to 20º and switch it to C.

I think it was Benj. Franklin who noted, wryly, that with philosophy a reasoning being can rationalize almost anything.

It takes less energy to keep a house at a constant temperature than to keep lowering and then raising the temperature.

Of course, a negative plus a negative = a positive…

Speaking of central A/C, who was the doofus who thought central A/C for home with more than one story was an efficient use of energy?
