Drove up to Portland and saw a few friends on Friday. There’s a major mall in Woodburn, OR and the south-bound traffic was backed up about six miles. We were going north.
Finally an A and J I get! She used to go out shopping for hours while he had quiet time home alone. Now she finishes her online shopping in a few minutes. Poor Arlo.
Man’s got a point, but really, online shopping is just objectively better. No crowds, few stock problems, no commute. It’s got its down sides, sure. I know what it did to the video store. Not to mention the arcade and the miniature golf course and such. But it’s hard to pass up that sheer convenience of shopping right from home and having it delivered.
I agree that online shopping has degraded the weekend, but I never did take part in the Black Friday shopping. Of course, that changed for the ten years I worked at Walmart.
Long time fan, first time commenting. Does anyone know the strip where Janis is in her nightgown and stands in front of the lamp so Arlo can see her silhouette? Thanks!
On the rare occasions when my wife (who is not a sports fan) sits down to watch a few minutes of an important game with me, the biggest irritation is when she gushes over a good play by the opposing team. I try to explain to her that this is not how it works.
We don’t shop online. We don’t order anything unless it is something we ABSOLUTELY need and there is ABSOLUTELY no other way to get the item.
We have never had luck with ordering and delivery. During the earlier part of the Covid lockdown here we tried ordering groceries from BJs. Husband had an email coupon for free delivery from them. He put in the order – using my cell phone’s phone number as the contact (he does gets very limited minutes included on his phone). After ordering he went out to his wood shop – I had to text him (he does have free texts) to come back in. One after text messages were coming in of what they were out of. The main reason for this order was we were almost out of meat items. In one case we were offered a bag of ice as a replacement for a meat item – we ended up with only meat item – beef stew meat – that was mostly fat. Then they did not refund for the items not delivered and he had to contact them several times to get these amounts credited back to us.
Ordered from Walmart main office – here do not order from store as none deliver. Items ordered arrived spread over a week from warehouses from MA to CA by UPS. 1/2 of the cans were DENTED. Boxes looked as if someone had jumped on them. 2 bottle pack of cooking oil had their caps/necks folded into the bottle. (Still using the second bottle over 4 years later.)
And these are some of the better delivery experiences we have had!

I’m still a fan of walking the aisles but I think Arlo’s beef has more to do with Janis knowing her way around a point spread.

On-line shopping to a very high degree or level of intensity?

As if time with your beloved Janis is ever other than welcome.

I thought they bought a new couch. If not they have put a lot of wear on this one and if they move they can just get one there.

I guess Bezos’s “delivery” drivers take the place of “Santa’s Elves”?
