I lived across the street from a grammar school built in the 1930s. When they tore it down they invited the whole town to the opening of the time capsule contained in its cornerstone. It was filled with Kay kay kay literature. Not a day of pride for the town.
Funny, we were discussing TV guide the other day, trying to remember what shows we watched. You know you’re getting old and daffy, when that’s the topic of casual conversation.
There’s a Facebook group that’s dedicated to classic TV shows, and every now and then someone will post pages from old TV guides dating from the late ‘50s to the mid-’90s. It’s interesting to see some of the listings for old shows that I had either forgotten about or hadn’t seen before.
I wrote a comedy bit about people who clipped and saved TV Guide articles. Then I found out there actually were people who saved old TV Guides and it just wasn’t funny anymore.

I grew up watching Friends and was quite saddened to hear of Mathew Perry’s recent passing at such a young age!

Monty, that TV Guide is 28 years old! That’s MORE than a lifetime in TV-time! Does a print edition TV Guide even exist anymore?

I worry that someone in the future will dig this up excitedly, open it and be like, “Oh, dang, it’s actually a garbage can, not a time capsule.”

Deep cut – Mary Kay Place had a song about living alone, mentioning marking the shows in the TV Guide.

I just bought a TV guide for my parents. I love this kind of coincidences.

My sister still gets the TV Guide in a subscription.
