Now we know what Mopey sees in Mindy: he needs her to help him finish his sentences. And you can see her pride as he gets it done with only two words from her! “My brave little man! Mommy is so proud of you!”
“It’s a good thing we didn’t have to fly down to Florida and miss all this lovely snow!”“And even worse, show an old man we were considerate human beings!”“We are indeed two fortunate entities, Beldar!”
But anyway, yeah, that’s right. Because he has grown tired of being around his grandchildren, Funky has decided that he’d rather spend a few hundred dollars and a few of his last remaining days to go back to Ohio to make a business deal which could be done in a Zoom meeting and should be done in a law office instead of the actual business location.
I wonder if we’re going to get a few panels to show all of the things that are still in the restaurant after the auction happened.
This is literally the worst comic strip writing ever. First panel: Exposition! They should already know who they are meeting, and why is “from Florida” so important that its 2 days in a row? Second and third panels: Words that have never been said in the history of English in this order! But—“BINGE-FLIX!” Oh, Tom, you scamp, you’ve done it again! A phrase that you really want to enter the lexicon that no one will notice.
To Tom Batiuk: Keep on going with “Crankshaft” and ignore these critics who know not how to draw people (like you do) and create such interesting characters (like you do). It’s a gift that you received awards for (I’m sure!) so Thank you!
Ok, I am confused. Why are so many “readers” of this strip constantly complaining? If they dislike this strip so much, no one is forcing them to read it.
I started following this strip after “Funky Winkerbean”, one of my favorite daily strips, ended. I enjoy Batiuk’s work and was happy to be able to continue seeing it. As a long time “Funky Winkerbean” reader I was happy to see an occasional appearance by one of the characters, just as I enjoy seeing an appearance by Charlie Brown or Nancy Ritz in other strips.
I disliked what became of “Gil Thorpe” and “Alley Oop” after new artists took them over (though I gave them both ample time to try to get used to them). I simply stopped following those two strips. If people like Lemonbaskt above and others dislike “Crankshaft” so much, why not just stop reading it?
Cue Crankshaft picking up Funky at the airport, in the school bus of course because apparently he can abuse the school system whenever he wishes. There will be some conflict while he drives him to Montoni’s, because of their past…..hmm. Actually, I don’t think the two of them ever interacted in either strip, so Ed’s dislike of Funky was just pulled out of thin air.
When this comes true, I expect accolades and huzzahs!

If I had to binge LIFETIME channel, I’d escape by plane myself.
Hey,Funky wants to brag about the place——give a history class;maybe fire up the ovens and cook samples. He wouldn’t sell it to just ANYBODY.

Funky Winkerbean gets cancelled for low readership. What to do? Turn your more popular comic strip into Funky Winkerbean! Brilliant….

the people who think this strip is funny probably think alice the maid married sam the butcher in real life

Christmas used to be Crankshaft’s best season.

“The Watchings.” Isn’t that a Steven King novel about the sinister inhabitants of an isolated small town?

Gooey, mopey Pete looks like he could be the offspring of Odo (Deep Space Nine).
