don’t believe anything someone says here. they’re bias and don’t realize the hate they spew, especially when people who are NOT from the USA. And of all the candidates, at least Peter is truthful!
This one is deep. Mastroianni captures the essence of the disgraced ex-president’s appeal. We (and yes, I include myself among those who made this mistake and therefore contributed to the Rise of MAGA), probably unintentionally (at least I would like to think it was unintentional), labeled a big swath of the American population as “losers,” particularly those whose good-paying working-class jobs were offshored or automated out of existence (“what a bunch of losers, thinking they could make a good living assembling cars!”) and those whose social/religious views were not keeping up with those of the coastal elites (“you still go to church? What a loser!”). OK, maybe the word was never spoken aloud, but the implication was there: “you’re not keeping up; you’re obsolete; you’re behind the times; you’re going nowhere” (which, especially in the case of economic globalization, was a real, measurable thing).
Along came a pathological narcissist with an instinct for flattery. Listen to the Orange One prattle along about our “beautiful, great coal miners” or our “beautiful, beautiful factories.” His campaign promise of “there will be so much winning that you’ll get tired of it!” resonated with those who knew that they were seen as losers, even if the word was never said. The message of MAGA was not really about making America “great again,” but more along the lines of “I will make you feel great again!”
It worked pretty well for him, enabled him to squeak into the White House on a technicality and create a cult following willing to risk (and sometimes receive) prison time for him. And if the “mainstream” politicians can’t figure out a way to attract the folks that their own culture has labeled “losers,” he may yet return. Ugh.
C’mon…Cheap shot! Guaranteed to rile the animosity so rife today. Not necessary, especially for a “comic” strip. Go to the ed’s or political commentary… BC Not Funny!

Back in the 1960’s I was called a “baby burner.” More recently I’ve been called a “sucker and loser.”

From an old, Johnny Hart era strip:
Grace: Are you going to vote for Thor?
Jane: No, he’s too shifty.
G: What about Peter?
J: He’s shifty as well. I’m voting for Curls.
G: But he’s not running.
J: Why, that shiftless bum.
