Don’t even send an angry reply, as it really just confirms this is an active account.

Spammers are becoming more sophisticated. Back in the early days it seemed like the promise of larger body parts or requests from an African prince were the main ploys. I haven’t received the promise of a larger **** in some time. I wonder if we, the target audience, have become better at detecting fakes and that is why the spammers have needed to up their game, or if the spammers got bored with the crude junk they were shilling and upped their game for their own enjoyment?

Another trick spammers have tried is the phone call that appears to be coming from your own number.

They said I have £4.5million inheritance in the Bank of Halifax.

I said to send the account information & I could take care of it.

I had an 80 year old lady on my route who answered every piece of junk mail that she got. This in turn generated more junk mail. It got to the point where she was receiving more mail than the rest of the people on the loop combined, probably 25 houses.

In the old days, before most spammers had figured out spoofing, I wrote a program. It kept a small database of e-mail addresses. When I’d get spam, I’d put the sender’s address into the database and it would respond by sending out an email to the latest sender telling him he is now on the junk mail distribution list and, if he’d like to get off… he can’t.

When they started to spoof, they’d put an email address in the body and I’d use that instead.

At the same time, I’d save the email as input to a program which would resend it to the list. The from address would be a random spoof from the database.

Sadly, they got more sophisticated but it was fun while it lasted.

In the early days of our family having a computer, I got some email spamming for an adult site. I decided to fight back, and complain to the sender’s ISP. I got a reply that the sender’s ISP verified my complaint, and closed the sender’s account.

That was just before Thanksgiving. I liked to imagine the spammer hosting Thanksgiving that year, and planning on showing off the computer and Internet use. But, not being able to use the Internet.

i buy and sell a bit on line. I think I’ll start using my new tag line: “We reserve the right to refuse service to any spammer.”

Being Brewster, he probably spammed himself in the first place.

Spam has given Spam a bad name. I wish they called it something else, like squash.

I have occasionally sent an email to myself. Since I typically check email first thing in the morning, for me, it’s the best way to post a reminder i.e. Dr. appt. Wed. at 9 am or Bro’s birthday Thursday.
