I haven’t seen the New Year in since…um…wow, it has been a while. Normally I’d be on duty the next day, but COVID came back for a return engagement. So—off until next week as precautionary.
We love celebrating New Year’s; especially the years when my husband isn’t scheduled to work that night (like this year). We watch movies, have a casual dinner of finger foods, and toast the New Year in while watching the ball drop. Then we talk about our favorite moments of the year, then change the calendars before going to bed.
Asleep by 10. Up about 530 on the water by 630, scouting for Redfish or Blackdrum that want to bite. Enjoy coffee while watching sunrise and with luck finding a wide open bite.
My parents would go out and park us with Grandma and Grandpa. We’d stay up till midnight (which is amazing when you’re a little kid), watch the ball drop, and then go out into the street banging pots. It was the best thing in the universe.
You can set your alarm clock or a timer before you go to bed early so you can get up just before midnight, bring in the new year, and not lose much sleep.
Story of my life . . . kinda’. For the past three years, I go to bed around 10:30-11:00, wake up quarter to midnight to celebrate the countdown in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, then go back to bed! You can DESIGN YOUR OWN FIREWORKS!XD
Boring parents. Mine took me (and later, my sister) to our grandparents while they partied. I particularly remember one year when they took us to dinner at a nightclub where we saw one of the second tier “crooners” perform. (that is, someone other than Sinatra or Dean Martin) For the life of me I cannot remember his name right now! We were sitting right by the stage and the singer was so taken by this cute little blonde girl he stumbled over the lyrics. Then off to grandma and grandpa.
For me and others whose birthday is on New Years Eve, I never liked that. Yet Happy Birthday. I am surprised they let the kids stay up that long. Husband and I will last until 11 p.m. yet neighbors will set up noises at midnight. Yes I celebrated my birthday todayChurch and eat out.
The Como Conservatory and Zoo in St Paul, MN held a “Noon Years Eve” party for small children, where they did a confetti drop and fun activities at noon on Dec 31 so that kids could celebrate the new year at a reasonable time of day for young ’uns.

Hmm? Has the ball dropped in the tv, or have the kids been up some hours longer, but not until eve, because of lack of fireworks and countdown?

We stay up for New Years, but we usually are up anyway, so the only good thing is the midnight kiss.

We had board game night with my parents and we’re now sipping our beverages waiting for the countdown. Happy almost new year everyone!
