Sometime on Thanksgiving Day, my furnace conked out. When I was ready to go to bed Thursday night, I started to notice how cold it was in the house. I threw an extra blanket on my bed and between that and several cats snuggled up close to me, I was warm enough in bed, but getting up Friday morning was something else. I called a couple places about getting my furnace repaired and they were closed for the holiday. Yes, they offered emergency services, but I would have to pay through the nose for it. One place said there would be a $249 service charge in addition to parts and labor. Another place quoted $220 an hour, starting from the time the technician left his house to the time he got home again, with a minimum charge of one hour (meaning if he lived next door to me, I’d still be charged $220 for having him come). Plus labor while he was here, plus parts. That likely would have amounted to over $600 once all was said and done. I decided I’d rather go without than to pay that! Then a friend suggested another company – one I had forgotten about – Baybrookes Heating and Cooling. I called them and had to leave a message for a call back. I was not hopeful that I would get that call before I needed to leave for work, but about a half hour later, he called. He was busy servicing someone else, but he said he could be here in a couple hours. Later, he called again and said he had a cancellation and he was on his way! He fixed my furnace and he cleaned it and the final bill was just $243! The problem was the ignitor switch. The part cost $90, so labor cost was very reasonable, especially considering it was a holiday. Trust me – Baybrookes will be my first call from now on any time I need furnace work done! Those other places won’t even be considered! Oh yeah, I was a little late for work – just an hour and a half late, so that wasn’t so bad.
Back home. Boo. I miss the water already. Everything is unpacked, put away (till next month) laundry is going and the truck is clean. We are pooped out.
That mouse certainly is bold for someone who lives in a warehouse with Ten Cats. Before anyone points it out, yes, I am aware that mice don’t really like cheese in real life (they prefer peanut butter), but cartoons don’t have to follow reality closely. Cartoon mice can eat anything they want to. (Unless cats have other ideas.) On another note, saw two wrens, three chickadees, two juncos, and a spotted towhee while out walking today.

That mouse should be glad that he is EATING there, rather BEING EATEN there! Beggars can’t be choosers! (can they?)

Don’t know why but the last two mouses to ‘use’ the live trap have been able to get back out, so back to the snapper trapper.
