For people scratching their heads wondering why a helicopter is supposed to be a funny punchline today, keep in mind that this was intended to be a television animated story line, and in the animation we could hear the sound of a helicopter approaching even tho it isn’t visible yet.
“A Charlie Brown Celebration” (1982)
Kind of doesn’t work so well when we can’t hear any sound.
I remember reading this storyline when it first printed. This is my favorite. I love that Schultz is working with some different perspectives and distances. This school-trip series has unique set pieces and feels more three dimensional with characters at different distances from the viewer.
I remember that sometime in the 1980’s that this was part of an animated special. Either I forgot the ending then, or for some reason my parents changed channels for some reason. Outside of the holiday trilogy, it was often a challenge to see all the ‘Peanuts’ specials when they aired. I will just wait and see how it ends here.

I have a feeling that the WWI vet has something to do with this helicopter.

Couldn’t she have just leaned a ladder against the barn, instead of talking him to death?
