I always favoured ‘Plib’ for a catch-all pill, invented by Peter Cook:

Theoretically, all of our transmissions (radio, TV, data, communications, etc.) can travel infinitely. But our signals get very weak very quickly, and become indecipherable (to our equipment). Possibly an advanced alien civilization could detect and decipher our transmissions… could be very embarrassing for us…
