One tree looked bad at the base according to a news article I saw. Had it removed and the trunk was hollow as the article predicted.

I’ve seen trees that looked fine and healthy, until they blew down. Their core was hollow and rotted. So they should get it checked out, especially if their neighbor’s tree was the same kind.

I’m with Abby. I think that I shall never hear a poem as lovely as the sound of a tree being sawed down and thrown bit by bit into the grinder. No more leaf raking, root-related plumbing problems, or danger of the house getting squashed. Trees are great on public property but there will never be one on mine.

While I love my neighbors massive cottonwoods for the shade they throw on our house (decreasing the need for the A/C to run), they shed branches, leaves, roots invade my lawn and I have a ongoing fear of them falling during a wind storm. I have similar concerns about the 30ft ponderosa pine in my front yard.

If you live in a neighbourhood that was developed at the same time, the trees were often planted by the contractors and are all the same age. In our area a lot of trees have reached their life expectancy.
