Somebody over at Arcamax (which is back in color today, figuring we’ve all got our eyeball bleach at the ready after yesterday’s strip) posted a PSA about how old folks should take “how to fall safely” training from their local EMS people. I had no idea such training exists, but it does seem like a good idea. I had to learn how to fall the old fashioned way. Luckily, I’ve gone hiking in the woods nearly all my life, tripped over my share of roots, so I learned how to fall pretty early on and have maintained the skill ever since.
So she, who is young and has no balance problems, is holding on to the railing around the treadmill, while he, who is in PT doing a balancing exercise because he fell recently, is nowhere near any kind of grab rail.
Add “physical therapy/gym safety” to the list of things Batty knows nothing about.
You don’t recognize me … years ago you would stop your bus to let kids step off into puddles of water … you opened your bus door over a patch of ice … I slipped and fell … you drove away … you joked that I was not balanced.

If there was more ice in the winter you’d be finely preserved.

I don’t think he’s very well-balanced in the first place.

Having just gone through this experience myself, I couldn’t agree with Ed more.

At my annual checkup last month, i was asked half a dozen times if i’d taken any falls recently. No, no, no…
A week later, i fell 3 times in as many days, all thanks to ice.
Does that count?
