So far, only work by him used here (2 times total, including this Throwback Thursday repeat), the November 3, 2021, strip being its first use.

The artist Raphaelle Peale: Self-portrait

Some of my Comments from November 3, 2021:
/// In my mind’s eye, Steve chuckles with glee
when this painting and caption we see.
“On a book, there’s cut fruit.
Now, go type something cute,
if you think you’re as funny as me.”
/// In addition he’s set a big snare
for a writer of limericks to dare.
Try to rhyme the word “orange,”
and you’re stuck writing “door hinge,”
an odd phrase that won’t fit anywhere.
/// So, I guess that Sol may as well quit.
Crown Steve Melcher the Wizard of Wit.
Orange you waiting for
someone clever to soar?
(Surely Ish’s stuff will be a hit!)

My original comment: Either cut the orange or peal it, not both! (yes I did misspell peel)

I like Raphaelle Peale’s work, but I prefer that of Judith Nude

Well, that’s kind of kinky.
If you’re into that sort of thing.

Raphaelle Peale was a starving artist. He couldn’t afford a model.
But at least when he offered to paint somebody’s fruit, they left before he was finished, so he got something to eat.

The paintings of Raphael Peale/
Possess an intrinsic appeal:/
The depiction of fruit/
Is a futile pursuit-/
Yet Raph’s are astoundingly real..///
Call me Ishmael 11 months ago
His talent was almost seraphic:/
His likenesses – near photographic/
But he never paints nudes/
So some of the dudes/
Would be happy if Raph’ played in traffic.///
His name has a feminine ending/
Hence to research Raph’ I am depending/
On some diligent souls/
With more serious goals:/
(If he’s female, my rhymes need amending..)

Nuthin’ comes to mind
Cept for that danglin’ piece of rind
And tho’ everything looks fine
Tis just a matter of time
Before we hear the words
“Who the hell left this orange stain on my book?”

(Think “Home on the Range” title reversed)
Orange unpeeled on the tome:
I hope that it won’t leave a stain
The Library’s fine would be stiff
For the damage — and sniff —
That stale fruit smell would remain.
.
Have you walked among old books?
The paper has begun to decay
As the books on the shelves rot,
The less Oxygen you’ve got
And it nearly takes your breath away.
.
Soon those books will be trashed,
The pages having been digitized.
I’ll mourn for the true touch
Of paper pages as such,
But the words will survive in new guise.

One of my favorite artists. Took the old European still lifes and redid them in American. I like his work better than his father’s or brothers’ too.
