Sounds consistent to me, it’s always somebody else’s fault.

I’ve seldom worn hand-me-downs: I was so much smaller than my older brother that it didn’t make sense. But I’ve often worn 2nd hand (I suppose it’s not 3r4d or more) clothing from stores that sell such things. Much less likely to find your fit on the first try, but priced so you can try again and again… and some of the stuff is very high quality indeed.

I do, however, bemoan the state of the world and the nation. FAR too many idjits and misinformed people with FAR too much power to make my life more difficult than it should be.

The first set of brand new clothes I ever wore was the uniform the Army gave me.

I wore a lot of hand-me-downs being the third of three sons, but I’m pretty sure I had some of my own as well. Then my sister taught me how to sew. (Which I did not do often, but still…)

I was the only boy with two older sisters, so hand-me-downs would’ve been problematic

I’m the oldest – I was the one who handed them down!

English isn’t my mother tongue, but I’m wondering if “sullied” is the most appropriate adjective here?

The state of the world has nothing to do with Grandpa.

One has nothing to do with the other.

I never had a problem with hand-me-downs. And I like salvaging things that other people broke and set out by the curb.

The world is constantly being ‘handed-down’ to successive generations. No matter how the ‘new start’ begins, it soon shows the wear — the creases, frays, and scuff marks of its progenitor.

I wore a lot of thrift store clothes, but since I was the first born, no hand me downs.

We don’t bequeath the world to our children and grandchildren, we borrow it from them. Try to keep from breaking it before giving it back.

On that topic, let’s see how many paper towels we can run through before all the trees are gone.

That’d be preferable to the rantings of some elder people on the futility of life and other morbid things. Especially if you’re HSP/Aspie like my buddy in Wodonga

I’m old and was the only boy so no hand-me-downs… but a propo this discussion is that I went through my closet and found I have about 50 t-shirts. They were all on hangers (I hang them to dry to prevent shrinking), and the necks got a bit stretched out. My SO says I should just throw out the worn-out ones and give away a bunch… But oh. the memories they evoke.
