In her last weeks, I asked my sister if she could abandon all healthy diet constraints and eat whatever she desired. Sadly, she replied that she had lost her appetite.
This may be true, but then there’s the possibility of dealing with high blood pressure, clogged arteries and diabetes. Sure you can take meds for that, but then there’s the chance of unpleasant side effects (not to mention co-pays and prescription costs).
And I always thought it was because he was greedy and self-centered. Picking the most frosting or biggest piece is like when he gives me his favorite chocolates for Valentines Day instead of mine [after 50 years, you’d think he would have know I prefer dark chocolate and caramel]; or when he sneaks in the kitchen to eat another piece of pie standing up in the dark; or when he brings home pastries that only he likes [and the package of 12 is gone in one day].
Moderation in all things is a cliche for a reason… My sister gave up all discipline when she turned 60 and died of obesity 30 years before the family genes would have dictated. I’m allowing selected indulgences as i pass milestones. I may resume cigarettes at 95…
Old people! Do you enjoy the Sunday comics as one of your last pleasures in life? Well, the whimsical “funny pages” are here to remind you that as you age, you will be beset with endless aches and pains, so much so that you will begin to believe that even in your life on Earth, you are experiencing a taste of what the [darned] go through in Hell. But still, one must cling to this life, imperfect as it is, as it could be swept away from us at any moment and then — nothingness, no more pain but also no more frosting. Something to think about!

I have been saying that for years, and you watch… it won’t be much longer and I will be right – and then I can say, ‘Told ya so!’

If you have to ask if it’s too late in the day to have a coffee and pastry, then you are an amatuer and we can’t be friends!

I have never put frosting on my turnovers. A little raw sugar? Sure. Frosting? Never.
