It was originally Washington’s Birthday observed on February 22, then it became a Monday holiday, & now it’s President’s Day. Both were/are Federal holidays but for us it was school as usual.

When I moved to Massachusetts in my teens, I was surprised to discover the schools had a winter break. Or as they referred to it, “ski week”.
