    I believe the horticulturists yesterday said you needed to trim dead blooms off a flowering plant. I think all the flowers in a bouquet died when the stems were cut.

    Hmm. You need to deadhead some annuals because the wilted flowers have been fertilized, and the plant will shift its metabolism from flowering to growing seeds if they are allowed to remain. I’m not so sure about this “poison gas” theory.
