Not exactly the same, but: A couple of days ago, I was waiting for a bus in front of a church. There was a funeral service in the church, and when they brought out the coffin, the bells started chiming. Two bells, only slightly different in pitch, but also slightly different in tempo. Very “painful” to my musical ear.
Have had more positive feedback over windchimes than negative feedback. Used to volunteer with an artist’s nonprofit organization – one member suggested installing windchimes on the city’s light poles in the Arts District. Got the city’s permission, and drummed up enough donations to buy the chimes. We installed them covertly – no public announcements, just put them up one day. Heard lots of positive comments from people in the area, got a “who did that?” article in the newspaper, and some businesses even asked us for windchimes near them (after word got out that we were the culprits).
We continued to replace windchimes over the next few years as the weather took its toll. Unfortunately, the instigator member unexpectedly died due to heart attack. Without his urging, the nonprofit quit renewing the chimes and now there are only a very few left. Have heard comments lamenting the loss of the chimes… maybe we’ll refresh them again?
A friend loaned me the use of her lakeside mountain cabin ;-) It had a deck around three fourths of the cabin with seating near a wind chime. Its tones were captivating and I was determined to find one just like it. I copied down every detail imprinted on the tag and the silver tubes. On the way down from the mountains I looked for any stores along the way that might have the chimes. I got lucky and found the source and bought a set for myself. The tones are melodious and so peaceful.

Japanese-style windchimes are very pleasant.
They’re also not very loud, which helps quite a bit.

I don’t recall hearing wind chimes in any of the Sex Pistols music. Perhaps I’ll have another listen. Nah

with our gale winds off the ocean, wind chimes would have to weigh hundreds of kilos not to get blown away… ☺
