What I remember about this arc from the first time around, was the number of other creators who incorporated it into their strips the following week. The messages were often about safety and animal loyalty. It would be interesting to see if History repeats itself.
This must be the most memorable episode in the whole run of this comic strip, but I seem to be remembering it differently. As I recall the first version, Edgar taught himself to use the doorbell several weeks before, and that was how he got the attention of the household. Am I wrong? Aside from the colorization I have noticed several minor dialog changes meant to modernize it, but why would anyone cut the whole doorbell thing?
My elderly dog woke us up from a sound sleep when a severe storm hit. We got out of the bedroom moments before a tree fell on our house. Another 12 inches and it would have gone through the bedroom. Tree damaged siding, chimney, and smashed AC unit. Went from neighbor’s backyard, my entire backyard, the entire width of my house, and half way through my front yard. Look out for your dog and love them, and they will look out for you as well. ( RIP Stitch ( a black and tan hound mix)- He was a good dog, you are still missed. )
What is it, Lassie? Did Timmy fall in the well? Fun fact: despite this being the popular meme, in the entire run of “Lassie”, Timmy never did fall in the well. (He did get himself into a lot of other trouble, though.)
I can tell you, every time I read through this current thread of strips, I always end up crying. It was such a heart slap when they first came out. Farley Forever!
My mother had a Labrador who would not let us get out in water past our knees until we were as tall as adults in his eyes. my brother was FURIOUS as a kid, he would wanna swim but Bart would grab him by the scruff of his life jacket and pull him back to shore. We have pics of Matthew pouting on his rear end while Bart drags him up to shore. :D Its adorable. He was a great dog.

Good thing Edgar barked instead of just scratching, or he could still be sitting outside.

For anyone who says this is absolutely not how dogs would behave, please turn to about 50 million videos on YouTube that show otherwise.

Always believed that animals are smarter than people. This arc proves it.

I have to admit, that’s pretty good teamwork between Edgar and Farley.

I was hoping you wouldn’t go this route again on the reboot. I still makes me not like April.

Let’s hope Farley makes it, too. It will take Edgar and John a minute to communicate, but help is on the way.
