I wish there were more strips focusing on Elly and John’s cruise. With Elly’s endless negativity, I bet he’d wish he had gone with a male buddy—Ted or Phil, say.
A few months after my niece was born, my sister, mom, brother-in-law and I traveled down to Ohio to visit relatives on my mom’s side of the family (aunts, uncles and cousins). It was an opportunity for me to meet 2 of my cousins I never got a chance to see in person, despite being 15 and 18 years age gap (my sister and I are the eldest of all us cousins). Also a chance to see grandma one last time.
During that visit, we introduced my niece to her great grandmother (my grandmother), who was placed in a home due to Alzheimer’s. The best part of the visit was a photo taken of all 4 generations together (my niece’s great grandmother, grandmother, mom and herself).
I’d like to clear things up in panel 1. As a Canadian I don’t wave goodbye with the back of my hand, nor do I know anybody else that does. My palm usually faces forward.
Also unless the car window is a mirror, Elly’s and April’s thumbs are on the wrong side of their hands.
April must like the smell of rose water and soap. That is the smell of all old women of that day and age. It is the smell Johnny Depp refers to in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory when he remarks to Charlies grandparents that they “smell like old people and soap.”

There were so many adult jokes today. Same as when Phil got married.
Marian{sniffling}: Oh James, to see our son get married.
Jim: Does this mean you will stop pacing the floor at night worrying about Phil?<p?Marian: It is only natural for a mother to worry. But I think both parents only want to see their children married, settled and happy.
Jim{thinking to himself}: Right. Now we can blow the wad and travel!
I Love the different viewpoints in “For Better or Worse.” Things are going to happen, and decisions are made, no matter how you grew up or try to raise your kids.

This is very sweet. Little children love with every bit of their hearts.

Sigh. The negativity in this place is making it an instance of bad money driving out good.

Here is one!
Phone rings
Elizabeth: Hello?
Michael: Is Farley OK?
Elizabeth: Michael, why do you ask? April fell into…
Michael{interrupting}: I don’t give a crap about Crapril! I am calling for what is really important, and I will say it slowly “Is Farley OK?”
Elizabeth: Uh…yeah….Farley has been a big part of the family, until now.
Michael: OK, fine. When I felt my butt get wet I knew I had to run out of class and call.

Time to pick out a burial spot for Edgar, then. Some people never learn.
