I worked in a restaurant for 30 years, started as a cook/dishwasher, worked my way up to management. When I started, the uniforms were: Managers where black slacks, white shirt, tie. Women wore white dresses like nurses uniforms back in the day. Waiters and busboys same as managers. Cooks, dishwashers, black slacks, white shirts. Over the years, they changed, relaxed the dress code. But it took a while for “hair”…we had a waitress who died her hair bright blue after getting the job, and was told she couldn’t work like that. Sent her home. She got upset since we didn’t let her “express herself”. They still don’t allow “un-natural colored” hair.
