My parents had mice. They caught about 2 gallons worth in one of those bucket traps. Instead of using water in the trap, mom put in crackers and stale bread. They drove them out to the town dump and released them there. (Only about a mile away from their house.). They had to repeat this process on an infinite loop, since they didn’t block up the gaps that the mice used to get inside. Eventually, my sister brought in two young cats and the mice haven’t been seen since. :)

Mice are social animals. Just because you only saw one (at a time) doesn’t mean that their aren’t 20 more back at your place. Reset the trap when you get home.
