I took a typing class in high school, but never got better than the two-finger “hunt and peck” method. Almost 60 years later, that’s the same way I type (text) today.

My favorite feature on my iPhone and car is that I can dictate a text and send it hands free to anyone on my contact list. Next I would like a feature to do the same to the driver of the car that cut me off on the freeway……

You’re gonna need a bigger keyboard.

And yet another hard-won skill rendered obsolete — like writing cursive, or doing math calculations long-hand on paper!

I get a text every 3-4 days, phone calls less often. I’m fine with this.

And start texts with “Hi, this is …” even though they know they come up in the receiver’s caller ID.

Voice to Text is a great newer feature. Not sure if it works on those ‘Senior Phones’, though ;)

Not this plugger. I can do over 100 wpm on a keyboard but I absolutely REFUSE to text. I don’t have the patience.

I hate those little keyboards. It’s a “crippled” interface designed for minimum space and minimum ease of use. I carry a folding bluetooth keyboard so I can actually type phone messages.

90% or better of the texts I write are “ok” and are to husband. As in dinner is ready “ok” come down.

Then there is “?” as in “what do you want for dinner” or pre-Covid when we wandered separately in stores when we went to them it meant “where are you so we can leave as I am bored silly walking around in the store – same one we were walking yesterday” – now we tend to stay together and leave stores much quicker.

Okay to be fair I also talk to my 95yo mom on Sunday evenings for an hour while I cook dinner so my sister – her primary caretaker – does not have to call her at her nursing home that night to talk.

And to do this I pay how much every month? Plus paying for his cell phone so he can get my text message. Plus the house phone line. Plus the online phone he has for his counseling practice – which he closed 3 years ago.

I figured out that when we make a phone call it costs us around $50 a call for a call of seconds – other than my mom – as we make so few calls.
