Better right now than later, at a more awkward, less convenient time when the need is immediate and the rest stops nonexistent.

That happened to me yesterday at the hospital. The nurse was prepping me for a procedure and asked me if I needed to pee and I said no. But a minute later, I had to go.

The nice thing about GPS these days is you can search for gas stations/restaurants/rest stops along the way. We did that recently (no kids) and planning our stops made the 6 hour trip more enjoyable.

Every summer we would drive from Everett to San Diego to visit my mom’s family. My dad would say “you better pee and you’d better eat, I’m not stopping till we get to Portland!”

Is Wren potty trained or just learning the word? Cuz she sure is drawn as a diapered toddler.

My Mom always made us pee before we left to go in the car,so now at 70 I still do the same thing.

I’ve taken road trips alone and with my wife. When I’m by myself I shave an hour every 4 hours off my trip time because of the Starbucks/snacks/bathroom stops.

Darryl said it was an eight hour drive but the distance is only 250 miles. It takes eight hours because of all the potty stops.

Remind them to go, but we also had them wear protection for the just in case. Even a little bit older kids can have accidents (I know as a parent). Especially if they knock out and then wake up to go and wouldn’t you know it that you just left the last town about 5-10 miles back.

I can hardly remember a road trip without either seeing or experiencing at least one roadside pee stop. Four door cars would open both the front and back roadside doors for privacy for dad or son. Moms and sisters seemed immune to the problem.

This is why you feed peanuts to everyone before a road trip – despite the car load of people with peanut breath, it should help reduce the urge to go on the go.

In real life, We travelled about 250 miles to see our parents practically every long weekend, so in our family’s case, we stopped every 100 miles, no matter what. The kids and us would play a short game of running around, just to get in some stretching. Over the years we found new places to see in every little town on the way there. Life changes and kids grow up. We have lots of pictures from those days.

Doesn’t matter, Darryl. An hour from now you’ll be hearing the dreaded, “Daddy, I have to pee…”

…when you’re stuck in construction traffic on the interstate ten miles from the nearest rest stop.

If it is an 8 hour drive with 3 kids they are going to need to stop at least 2 times unless it is a no drinks trip to prevent the stopping. I know when I have traveled I always had to go about every 2 hours no matter how much I drank.
