Ahh the old do the opposite of what your parents like or say or think because, after all, parents are complete morons until you grow up and realize they were pretty smart after all.

I can’t tell if Elly is entirely clueless in today’s panel, or if she knows EXACTLY what she’s doing when she’s complimenting what Elizabeth is wearing by telling her it’s “cute.”

As a teenager, it is always the kiss of death when your mother compliments you fashion choice for the day. That or she thinks you look like a clown and just doesn’t want to tell you so.

Her walking shoes needs cleats? Is there still slippery snow in Canada in the middle of June? Yikes, gotta keep your traction while walking.

i like to sing slightly changed verses of their current musical choices in car rides with their friends: “that girl eats with me at lunch, we have carrots by the bunch, yeah we really like the crunch” until they tell me ‘those aren’t the words!’ – makes me laugh! :P

You gotta admit that that t-shirt must have have been a present from Liz’s father, the dentist. Dentists must have a large hundredfold supply of Reality Bites t-shirts on hand, showing perfect teeth, to give out as presents.

No wonder the dentist’s wife thinks the t-shirt looks REALLY CUTE.

I guess it would be better to wear that than a t-shirt stating…BITE ME!

Teenage boys especially hate being thought of as “cute” by parents, but not so much by teenage girls. Still not ideal, but… well, you know.
