I don’t understand why SoCal people put “the” in front of freeway numbers. Up north, we take 580 to 5. Before 880 was 880, we called it “the” Nimitz. But once we got numbers, we dropped the. It’s just 880.
Interstate 10 (AKA Santa Monica Freeway) starts in Santa Monica CA and ends in Jacksonville, FL. Interstate 405 (AKA The 405) is technically a bypass of Interstate 5 and separates from the I-5 at the El Toro Y in Irvine CA and rejoins the I-5 on the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley at Sylmar CA. The 405 is the busiest and most congested freeway in the United States and is known as the San Diego Freeway in its entirety. Interstate 5 runs from San Ysidro Port of Entry from Mexico in the San Ysidro neighborhood of San Diego and terminates at the Peace Arch Border Crossing on the Canadian border.

Worked with guys that drove 60 miles to work and 60 miles back home everyday. All for an affordable house.

For those outside of CA — “The 10” and “The 405” are LA-area freeways. It’s just the way they talk out there.

I get up every morning from my alarm clock’s warning and take the 8:15 into the city.

Only in southern California. In Northern CA “the 101” is normally called “highway 101”, and “the 5” is “I-5”.

This is the type of conversations that go on between medical staff whenever I’m there and concerned about my health.
