I’m fortunate to be able to see lots of fireworks for the next two nights. My home overlooks an island here in northernmost Maine. At least a half dozen homes on the island will be setting off fireworks that I’ll get to enjoy for free.

John Adams said that the 4th should be celebrated with fireworks, so obviously the colonists had access long before independence.

It feels like we’re moving back to a monarchy as our democracy is eroding under this Supreme Court and Presidents are now above the law

Well, if that doesn’t illuminate the level of “thinking” in much of this country, I don’t know what does.

it was a very limited democracy for centuries and has moved away from it so much we are now classified as anocracy.

The first Independence Day was celebrated by ringing the Liberty Bell among others. The bell was poorly made, we should ask for our money back.

At which time all the colonists shouted “yee-ha” and shot their guns in the air, leading to an ammunition shortage during the early stages of the Revolution.

George II, George III’s dad commissioned a grand fireworks show with music by Handel in 1749. The Chinese had been tinkering with fireworks for hundreds of years before that.

Well technically we ended up as a constitutional republic, other former British colonies such as Canada, New Zealand and Australia ended up as democracies.

i had always thought that the fireworks come from the war of 1812 … and the robot must be an undocumented immigrant … seems to know more of our history then we do … that is a clear sign that they were not educated here.
