They is at the tickets counter, at the snacks stall, the ushers, the ones who runs the projectors, the ones who cleans up after a show like janitors, and also the ones who cleans the toilets. Because they is the only two peoples running the whole theatre. How does only two peoples runs a whole theatre? It’s called running eh.
Just how the heck do two people run the snack bar, sell the tickets, run the projectors, be the ushers, AND the cleanup crew/janitors all at the same time??
Consider the settings of this week’s strips… Monday and Tuesday, we have Chinstubble and Generic Blonde Woman cleaning out the theater. Yesterday we have them standing by (but not at) the ticket window chatting with Ed and Mary about something the latter apparently overheard. Today they’re all at the concession stand.
This makes no sense at all. Are Ed and Mary here to watch a movie? Are they just wandering in because of their familial relationship? Is Batty just pulling stuff out of his behind?
Yes, what twentysomething/thirtysomething woman doesn’t love hearing from her grandfather’s girlfriend that Orson Welles gets them in the mood for romance? Also, how wonderful for business that Hannah and Max’s time is spent catering to a pair of nonpaying customers.
Pre-COVID (not sure about now), movies were a fairly popular pastime for seniors. But instead of going to “revival” theaters they were inclined to see new movies that were reminiscent of the classics (for example, modern westerns, the “Knives Out” style movies, historical epics). In other words, Batuik gets yet another thing wrong.

“Well, enjoy the private screening, because as usual you’ll be the only people in the theater.”

Maybe Mason Jarre and his 70 yr old prego wife will make a surprise appearance at the theater.

The fools will end up losing money by powering up the projection apparatus for two admissions.

After demonstrating some possible movement, Crankshaft edges ever closer to a speaking role.

Ah yes, a vintage movie theater, an old movie playing on the screen, while Ed and Mary are in the balcony kissing and fondling one another.
NOW try to sleep tonight with picture in your mind. Bwaa ha ha ha ha.

Yes, because you can’t have a date night with a movie made in the past 60 years.

You can do better, lady.

The way Ed is blushing, if he was younger, you might think he was about to get “lucky.” Probably just a fond memory.

I have trouble thinking of Crankshaft as the soul of romance
