In the good old days, Walter Cronkite read you the facts, and you could form your OWN opinions about things. You didn’t have a bunch of inbred hairdos sitting around on a couch telling you what to think and who to be afraid of this week, dagnabbit.
I could do Frank one better. We used to have a local service called Newsfax which would condense the facts of the the local channels news stories and add national news stories onto one 8.5X11 inch sheet of paper. I could read that in less than 15 minutes.
Wow, Grandpa wasn’t like MY grandpa! Yes, LOCAL TV news was half an hour…then World news was an hour…and then there was what became my STILL all-time-most-hated TV show of my life – 60 Minutes!!! 60 #$##!##—ing Minutes! Every Sunday night…starting late because of my second most loathed program – Sunday Night Football….and either outright canceling or delaying past bedtime “All In The Family.” Oh, they might join “All In The Family” “already in progress” but would they EVER do that with 60 Minutes so it could end on time? Not on your life!!! And then, when none of those TV options were available, there was all-news-all-the-time talk RADIO which was on every waking minute between news television. Never a moment of piece and quiet unless Grampa was out of the house and we could turn that #$$ radio OFF. To this day I refuse to listen to “news” of any kind and my only input is through reading it. No commercials and no teasers….and I’m a speed reader. Life is too short to spend glued to a news show.

I only check the news online once or twice a day, that’s enough to keep me up-to-date and still have lots of time left to do other things offline.

3 minutes of NPR in AM and 3 minutes in PM. All the news that is needed.
