I hadn’t run across “polycule” ere now. (And my smell checker doesn’t like it still). Interestingly cute. As for whether it can work well, I’ve thought about it from the perspective of a commune in which every decision has to be group approved. The formula for the number of communication channels (relationships) between N people is
(N times (N-1))/2
So 1 person has 0 relationships; 2 people have 1; 3 people have 3; 4 people have 6… and so forth. Having lived with another adult most of my adult life, I know that the amount of effort to maintain a clear and pleasant line of communication is … not small. Now imagine a polycule with, say 5 people in it. That’s ten times the effort you’d have to make with just two of you. Even adding one person to a couple would mean they have to work three times as hard to maintain a good, happy triad. What do you think the odds are that such a menage will be stable and happy?
republican hypocrisy is on full view with all the religious fantasies being forced down the throats of people who are actually sane enough to understand what BS christianity is.
in synagogues there are no images of god, the Christians bow down before idols. It helped in convert the ancient people to Christianity to pray to idols
Maintaining a moral life of love and respect was so much easier 3,300 years ago before some religious fanatics decided to impose commandments on everyone.
Let’s try a simple “Pledge of Allegiance” to our Flag and for which it stands.
That last one fits Putin to a T, and so many others. Maybe Ted is getting tired of supporting a monster? Yeah, not likely, because he got the flag wrong.
Religion is such a funny thing, American zealots can point out all the things wrong with religions on the other side of the ocean, and yet not recognize them at home.
Third grader reading the Ten Commandments hanging on the bulletin board in his classroom, asks his teacher, “What’s adultery?” The teacher replies, “Ask the former President.”
I like the Second Commandment comment. The Iconoclast Heresy was interesting in its own way. Of course, all the Heresies are interesting, and each one marked a point in which the Church was forced to self-reflect and consider the issue. I can’t answer for the Synagogue, but that issue has long been answered for Catholic and is primarily used now on in anti-Catholic rhetoric. As for number IV, holiness is a state of mind, not an activity and I don’t recall a minimum time input for satisfying the command. Overall, this was a nice commentary on the reality of the Commandments and the pointlessness of putting them on school walls.
Flipping doesn’t necessarily mean “false witness”, so why imply it? “Flip” testimony that supports other evidence would be the opposite of “false witness”.
Well, SCROTUS just transformed presidents into kings, saying that there is a presumption of immunity for virtually every act because virtually every act is presumed to be an official one, including crimes and instructions to commit crimes.
Okay, are there still citizens who will revive Poplicola’s foresightful law?
The King James Ten Commandments are just a list of values.
Ok. Let’s start with the first Value that forbids all other religions, the second Value that declares Catholics to not be Christians and thus forbidden, the third Value that forbids questioning Christianity, and the fourth Value that requires active participation in the Christian Religion.
As for the final six, they exist in every culture and religion in the world. American values are not Christian, they’re just the common values held around the world.
Yesterday evening I listened to Biden’s response to SCROTUS’s ruling. (It was the first time I’ve ever intentionally listened to him)
I can’t swear to it – it might have been my hearing, or the quality of the recording – but he certainly sounded unable to speak with precision. What he said was okay tho nowhere near as forceful as the situation deserved, but his delivery sounded to me as tho he’d had a stroke
There is a lot of truth in this, but where is the compassion?
Like Jesus said, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to cast a stone…” John 8:7
Jesus only proposed two commandments:
“36Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38This is the first and great commandment. 39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
Matthew 22:36-40
If more people followed the second commandment, the world would be a better place.

Seems like the more Felon45 flouts these commandments, the more MAGAts are plastered to his posterior.

Thou shalt not lie, except if you’re a self-righteous, insecure political cartoonist, who, too often obfuscates the truth.

make it a rule only post those thing the politicians follow 100%, and as none of them follow the 10 commandments, it should not be posted in schools!

Nothing like a Catholic governor signing this anti-Catholic bill into law.
oh and . . . The required text doesn’t come from any religion. It’s from a movie.

Most Christian denominations recognize that people aren’t perfect and that perfection is a marathon rather than a one-off event.
This often gets forgotten about.
