Both those cultural icons are on my list of favorites. Including takeoffs on the album and its cover. Such as the “Pink Freud” cover.

Sometimes when you see the moon out during the daytime, it looks kind of like a small round cloud.

That was a lot to get us to that punchline.

And the Moon is slowly moving away from the Earth. What effects might that have? I’ll be content to patiently observe from another realm.

Dark Side of the Moon is one of my all time favorites. It was released on my 18th birthday in 1973.

Love and madness were considered lunar phenomena in ancient times. But they considered the first phrase redundant.

Parts of some polar craters get no sun. And apparently they have ice!

I enjoy it when Frazz teaches us some real science. But the drawing is bad. The only time you can “see” the dark side (or at least have the dark side facing in your direction) is at New Moon, when the Sun is within about 5° of the Moon, and that’s far too close for safety, even if there was a chance of seeing something that dark. Even during a total solar eclipse (always at New Moon), there’s too much light from even the corona to glimpse the dark soil and rocks of the Moon, at least for human eyes. Has anyone seen a photo of the Moon during an eclipse where you can actually make out features on the Moon? Now I’ve gotta search for that…

One of the coolest little tidbits on the “Dark Side” album is at the end. One of the musicians briefly explains that there really is no side of the Moon that’s permanently dark. Yay!

Typically even a new moon is visible in the sky, because sunlight reflects off the Earth, and then off the Moon, back to the Earth. It’s very dim after all that reflection and scattering, of course, but you can still figure out that it’s the Moon.

Dark side of the moon referred to the side we never saw. This has d=nothing to do with light and dark but lack of knowledge of the other side.
