Kate is learning the gravity of the situation.

Amazed she got up starting with the seat like that. You should be almost sitting on it to start. It’s more like step on the first pedal and it hauls you up while moving the seat under. After that, it gets more involved. Training wheels in this case would either be holding on to a fence or using a pair of those walking poles. Used to be able to ride and juggle, but after many years I’m lucky just to get on the thing.

When I was 8 or 9 I remember a lot of kids rode their bikes standing them up on their rear wells. They called it “horse riding”. Never tried it myself.

Now that you’ve mastered the unicycle, you must juggle while riding it.

Knew a guy in high school who rode a unicycle to and from school. I never mastered the art of balancing on the thing.

It can be a vicious cycle.

My oldest brother had a unicycle at one time. I unsuccessfully tried to learn how to ride it.

Nothing says “cool” like biking alone on a tandem. Maybe give that a shot instead!

Better to use a full helmet. Banging your chin like that is dangerous. Kate could break her front teeth.

My former neighbors, who were from England, had a unicycle. I was a full grown (not saying much) adult, and they did not give me any instructions, but told me it was easy. They had me start at the top of their concrete driveway. I never really moved on the unicycle, but I did land forward. Instructions would have helped a lot.
