And it’s not a picture ID. Did the DMV have cameras back then?

Hasn’t had an accident or ticket since? Not a bad record. A neighbor rarely gets out of his driveway anymore without a problem and Heaven help anyone sharing a shopping mall parking lot.

It’s the same year that that driver expired.

That view of the car is what Seinfeld said should be the official symbol of Florida

When I was in the service, the State of New York automatically extended my driver’s license as long as I remained on active duty. So my license was a decade out of date. It was a piece of cardboard and had a 30-digit code as the number. No picture.

So when I was asked for ID in California where I was stationed, I usually offered my military ID instead.

We had a guy here, name of Hans Fabricius. I saw him when he was 104, driving into town from the Flats, in his old, pink Ford Fairlane.

Is that when you had to start getting driver licenses, to drive?

I’ve a couple of times had fun renting a car in the US with my Swiss driving licence, because it doesn’t have an expiry date on it. Some of the less trained/experienced rental agents get thrown into a panic about that and try to refuse it, so I then have to escalate the issue to someone who can look such things up. In truth it DOES expire on my 70th birthday, but that’s not visible on the licence itself.
