My first car was a used ’Stang. Had to put anew engine in it, the rear window shattered another time, several starters replaced. Was more $ than it was worth, but glad I got to own my favorite type of car for awhile.
In his mid 50s husband was burned out at work. I suggested, after running the numbers on our finances (I am an accountant) that he take a 6 month leave of absence from work -hoping he would go crazy being home all the time, but prepared for us to get by financially if he decided to quit.
He quit his job at the end of the 6 months. Turns out I should have said a year – because it took another 6 months for him to go crazy at being home all the time – especially since I was going out to work about 4 or 5 days a month (work from home) and he was lonely and to my embroidery club once a month. We were to increase our the income from craft business from continual loss to a profit also as part of this.
We do pick up a bit of work here and there related to our hobbies – some we are paid and some are volunteer situations – but at least is something to do. He is now working at weaving and demonstrating and selling at reenactment events and does a bit better than he did when we did craft shows and he did leather work and woodworking – but still a hobby not an income. I still have 5 clients. We get by.
But is amazing that one starts to miss what bothered them before when working. We are together almost 24/365 and haven’t tried to kill each other yet! :-)
